What is Frontline Families Canada?

Frontline Families Canada is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting families of first responders across Canada. We provide resources, retreats, conferences, and peer support aimed at addressing PTSD, grief, and other challenges faced by frontline families.

Who can join or participate in Frontline Families Canada events?

Anyone who is part of a frontline family is welcome to participate. This includes spouses, partners, children, parents, and other close family members of frontline workers such as paramedics, police officers, firefighters, military personnel, healthcare workers, and more.  Currently, our Frontline Families Retreat is open to spouses who have lost a first responder in Canada, and their surviving children 4 years of age to 18 years of age.  We will have more events coming!

How do I get involved with Frontline Families Canada?

Can I volunteer with Frontline Families Canada?
Yes! We welcome volunteers who are passionate about supporting frontline families. Please note that volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Please see our volunteer tab where you can see current opportunities and apply!

Here are some common questions families may have about attending a Frontline Families Retreat, along with clear and helpful answers.
What is a Frontline Families Retreat?
Frontline Families Retreat is a 4-night away at a resort in Ontario designed to provide a space of rest, healing, and connection for families who have experienced the unique challenges that come from the loss of a frontline service member. It offers workshops, counseling sessions, peer support, and recreational activities to promote healing, resilience, and connection.
Who can attend the retreat?
The retreat is open to spouses who have lost a first responder in Canada, and their surviving children 4 years of age to 18 years of age. Throughout this retreat, you and your children will have the opportunity to participate in activities that foster relaxation, reflection, adventure and bonding with others who share similar experiences. Whether through group discussions, outdoor activities, or quiet moments of personal reflection, we hope this time will bring comfort, renewal, and a sense of community.
How do I know if the retreat is a good fit for me?
We have a screening process in place to ensure the retreat is appropriate for each participant’s needs and circumstances. This process helps us create a safe, supportive environment where everyone can benefit from the resources, workshops, and activities provided. Is there a cost to attend the retreat?
The retreat is completely FREE of charge for families, thanks to many donations and fundraising efforts. We do ask for a refundable deposit to secure your spot and please review our cancellation policy.
What should I expect during the retreat?
Expect a welcoming environment where you can share your experiences, participate in healing workshops, learn coping strategies, and connect with others who understand your journey. There will also be opportunities for relaxation and recreational activities.
Are children allowed at the retreat?
Yes, children ages 4 – 18 are welcome! We offer specialized programming for young participants to help them process their experiences in age-appropriate ways.
Can I attend the retreat if my children are over the age of 18, or I don’t have any children?
For widows/widowers whose children have aged out of our family retreats, Frontline Families Canada offers new opportunities for healing and connection. You are warmly invited to attend our adults-only retreats, where you can continue your personal journey in a supportive and understanding environment. Additionally, you may choose to return as a volunteer at our family retreats either as a retreat leader or session leader, sharing your experiences and compassion to help guide others through their healing process. Whether as a participant or a mentor, there is always a place for you in our community.
How do I register for a retreat?
You can register through our official website. Simply fill out the application form, and a member of our team will reach out to you with further details.
What if I need flights to the retreat?
We will take care of booking and paying for your flights for yourself and your children. We will also have transportation provided for you to and from the Toronto airport!
What should I bring to the retreat?
We recommend bringing comfortable clothing, any necessary personal items, and an open heart. Specific packing lists and details will be provided upon registration.
Will my privacy be protected?
